I hired Karen Silva in Hilo on January 23, 2026, to capture my sister-in-law’s Celebration of Life at the Pana'ewa Rainforest Zoo. This was a monumental gathering for our family, with relatives traveling from as far as Texas and Perth, Australia, many of whom may never be together in person again. Karen handled the day with incredible grace; she remained respectfully in the background while still capturing the essence of the event perfectly. Not only did she document the day, but she also took some truly fantastic group and cousin family photos that we will treasure forever. She provided us with a wealth of excellent images that captured these rare, precious moments between us all. If you need a photographer who is professional, empathetic, and capable of capturing the true heart of a gathering, I highly recommend Karen.

Karen worked her magic on a (not great!) picture I took of my sweet Shadow cat, who had recently died of cancer. She took what was a very sad situation into a beautiful memorial. And she did it with grace and compassion.

Tough Mudder 2011 - This was an awesome event and Karen did a fantastic job of taking pictures and documenting it for us. The books she printed were amazing and a great way to preserve the good times.

Karen has done a bunch of different things for me and I am very happy with what she has done! She made a book and DVD of my 40th birthday party, made a photo-journal comprising of a bunch of pics of my life so far (the book was incredible), and has made photo logs that is required in my work.. very professionally made.
